Scarlet-Chested Parakeets
Scarlet-Chested Parakeets are one of the Neophemas, a group noted for their beauty and gentle quiet ways - as close to being "ideal" aviary birds as one could imagine. The Scarlet-Chested Parakeet is one of the lovliest of the group, small, no bigger than a budgie, with a pleasant voice, gentle disposition, and no vices worth mentioning. One look at its photograph and you'll see why the Scarlet-Chested Parakeet is considered one of the most beautiful birds in the world. The adult male's head is turquoise blue and its face is a more brilliant blue. The beak is black. The bird's back is a grass green and the lower parts of the chest and tail are a rich yellow. The upper part of the chest is vivid scarlet. The Scarlet-Chested Parakeet's wings are deep blue edged in turquoise. The Hen's breast is greenish without the scarlet and the hen's head lacks the bright blue.

Scarlet-Chested Parakeets are popular aviary birds because of their beauty and peaceful temperament. Their pleasant chirping and nondestructive nature adds to their charm. As lovely and beautiful as these birds are, because of their quiet introverted personalities, they aren't the perfect pet for everyone. Budgies are much more outgoing, boisterous, willing to make friends and interact one-on-one with just about anyone. Scarlet-Chested Parakeets are wonderful to have around, to watch, and to enjoy, but are probably best enjoyed living in aviaries or flight cages.
