Orange-winged Amazons make great pets. Easy to train and easy to care for, they are excellent talkers and they tend to form a strong bond with their owner. Their dietary needs are easily satisfied. An Amazon's main diet should primarily consist of nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables, supplemented by a good commercial pelleted diet.

However, it must be said that they are frequently rather noisy and so are not particularly well suited to apartment life. Also, as juveniles, they sometimes go through a tempermental stage and can be quite difficult for a time, though they do get over it, eventually. Experienced Amazon owners regard their Orange Winged Amazons with much affection. First-time bird owners may find them to be a more formidable challenge than they expected.
