Mature Nanday Conures are about 11-12 inches long and weigh a bit more than five ounces. In adult birds, the head is black, along with the cheeks and throat, which looks like a cap. The rest of the body is green, the throat and breast are blue, and the feet are red. Nanday Conures are native to southeastern Bolivia, southern Mato Grosso, northern Argentina, Chaco Formosa, and Paraguay, where they live in large peaceful flocks that often include Quaker Parakeets as well. |

Typically, Nanday Conures are friendly, good natured, and make wonderful pets.
They are highly energetic, curious, inquisitive and playful. They love
attention and delight in being "one of the family." Often they talk,
although not as well as some other parrot species. On the minus side, they are one of the noisier conures. As such, they might not be well suited to apartment life. Most Nanday owners find their call tolerable, but rather harsh and screechy. Their dietary needs are easily satisfied. A Nanday's main diet should primarily consist of nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables, supplemented by a good commercial pelleted diet. |
