Lovebirds are
any of nine species of small African parrots characterized
by bright colors, high intelligence, unlimited energy, curiosity and
sociability. A single lovebird will quickly bond with its owner and
establish him or her as its very own property to love and to cherish
forever.
Intensely emotional and feisty, lovebirds pack tremendous courage
and assertiveness in their
little bodies. For this reason a lovebird is usually best suited to a
household where the "lovey" will be the only pet. In the presence of
other pets, a lovebird will likely confront and attempt to intimidate
them. In doing so they don't necessarily exercise sound judgment. For a
lovebird to confront a larger more powerful pet is dangerous. For it to
intimidate a smaller less-assertive creature is hard on the lovebird's
victim. Both these situations are to be avoided.
A lovebird is happiest when surrounded by its
countless toys and an adoring flock of humans. Lovebirds are tireless and
their antics are endlessly amusing. Although some lovebirds learn to talk,
they are not noted for their speaking ability, and shouldn't be acquired
expecting that they will be conversational. A single lovebird will soon
become a wonderful loving companion.
