Caique and Cage Name: Miami Age: 4 years old (comes with cage and accessories) Miami is a Black-headed Caique, one of parrotdom's most boisterous, intelligent, inquisitive, outgoing species. Caiques are endlessly entertaining and super energetic. They love to go-go-go, socialize and perform for one and all. Their brilliant colors and clownish appearance tell the world that they're the center of attention. | ||

Typically, Caiques are 9 or 10 inches long. They're friendly, playful,
energetic and acrobatic, and seemingly prefer hopping or walking to flying,
although they can fly perfectly well. These birds make wonderful long-lived pets (typical lifespan of over 30 years). A Caique can be a fun friend for decades. They're intelligent, learn tricks easily, and love to show off. Typically, they enjoy going on outings, meeting new people, and performing for them. They love to be the life of the party, but it's important to keep their wings properly clipped to avoid problems when away from home.

On the minus side, Caiques tend to be noisy. They're heavy-duty chewers,
needing lots of wooden toys they can destroy. Because they are so
intelligent and energetic, a busy owner may be hard pressed to find the
time and means to keep their Caique properly entertained and challenged.
Also, they tend to be territorial around their cage, and it is not
altogether unknown for a Caique to become unexpectedly and suddenly
frightened or angry when faced with an unexpected object or situation. These are very courageous birds, generally unwilling to back down from confrontations with other animals, particularly larger birds (a trait shared by lovebirds). Often, a Caique will act as if it is an invincible "Super Hero" which it is not, and owners may have to take care to keep their beloved Caique out of trouble. Because they can be noisy, a Caique may not be the best choice for apartment dwellers. Otherwise, one of these medium-sized charmers could well be the pet of a lifetime. |
