Blue-Crowned Conure |
|
Basically green in color, the Blue-Crowned is quite attractive, with
three or four different greens in its striking plumage. The underparts
of the tail feathers are red-orange and its head is
crowned in the lovely blue from whence it gets its name. Although not so
flashy as some of the other conures, the Blue-Crowned is one good looking
bird indeed. Even it's beak is multi-colored. In mature birds, the upper
mandible is horn colored and the lower mandible is black. Sometimes a bit shy initially, the Blue-Crowned conure quickly warms up and generally becomes a good-natured, cheerful, playful friend, one possessing high intelligence and often demonstrating the ability to talk. Although Blue- Crowned conures frequently speak, speech should not be the main consideration in acquiring one. A Blue-Crowned talks well for a conure, but in that respect they're not to be compared with African Grays or some of the other outstanding talkers of the parrot world. One of their more attractive features is that they tend to be much less noisy than other conure species. That's not to say that they can be described as "quiet," but those familiar with the Sun Conure, for example, would be quick to notice and appreciate the difference. Like the other members of the conure family, Blue-Crowned conures love attention and want to be close to their owners, who will be both charmed and delighted by their multifaceted personality. Just about all conures are curious, inquisitive, active, playful and gorgeous. These birds are natural, playful clowns that endlessly entertain their owners with amusing antics. Conures are frequently seen rolling on their backs, kicking their feet in the air, wrestling and tumbling, standing on their heads or hanging upside down by a toenail and rotating in space while calling to their friends. |
