A native to northeastern Brazil and a close relative of the Sun Conure, the Jenday Conure is one of the most colorful and beautiful of the conures. Mature Jenday Conures are about 11-12 inches long and typically weigh somewhere in the range of 4.5 to 5 ounces. The head and upper breast are a golden yellow that blends into a reddish gold on the lower abdomen. Sometimes they will have an olive yellow breast. The wings, upper tail, and upper back are green moving into an orangish red on the lower back. The underside of the tail is black and the under side of the wings are an orangish red. The tip of the tail and the outer wing feathers are blue. The beak and the feet are black. The colors are more subdued in younger birds, with the adult coloration coming at about age two. |

Jenday Conures are generally friendly, good natured, and make wonderful pets.
They are highly energetic, curious, inquisitive and playful. They love
attention and delight in being "one of the family." On the minus side, they are one of the noisier conures. As such, they might not be well suited to apartment life. Most Jenday owners find their call tolerable, but rather harsh and screechy. Also, they can be fairly destructive if not watched. Their dietary needs are easily satisfied. A Jenday's main diet should primarily consist of nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables, supplemented by a good commercial pelleted diet. |
