Blue-Headed Pionus
The Blue-Headed Pionus is the most popular of the Pionus species. A relatively quiet mid-size parrot, the Blue-Headed Pionus's high intelligence, calm personality, beauty and excellent talking ability make it a wonderful adaptable family pet. Socialized properly when young, the Pionus is able to bond with several family members.

Males and females alike posess the beautifully striking blue head characteristic of the species. Young birds often have a lot of green on the head as well. The green feathers are replaced by blue ones on the bird's first moult.

Pionus Parrots should be fed a diet high in fresh vegetables and fruits. Pionus generally have a good appetite and love fresh foods. A diet consisting of only seed and pellets is to be avoided. A bird on such a restricted diet will tend to become obese and will be missing vital nutrients and vitamins.
